Chocolate Banana Smoothie

If you have a long drive to the mountains it can be easy to fill up on junk food on the way to the trailhead. We all know empty calories won’t help you get up the trail! One of the easiest breakfasts to prep and enjoy for your drive up are smoothies. I am probably addicted to chocolate so clearly my favorite pre-hike breakfast is a chocolate banana smoothie. It is absolutely delicious, easy to make, and nutritious.

Ingredients

3 frozen bananas

1 cup almond milk

2 Tbsp Navitas Cacao

2 tsp flaxseed meal

2 medjool dates (for sweetness)

 


Use a high speed blender to make this smoothie extra creamy. Toss all the ingredients in and blend. It’s that simple!

This smoothie is a great source of dietary fiber, antioxidants, potassium, magnesium, and omega-3s.

Cacao is a great alternative to processed cocoa powder and the sweetness of the bananas and dates make this smoothie taste like dessert. Want a post hike treat? Add less almond milk and you get the consistency of ice cream. You’re welcome!

    Empty calories WILL help you on a hike. Anyone who claims otherwise isn’t really a hiker (or has never hiked hard with a pack on their back).

      Nonsense- obviously this recipe is for day hikers. I will agree that calories in general have benefit to backpackers but I’ve found I do much better when I fuel up the right way and not on empty calories.
