2013 has been a pretty incredible year for me! I set a goal of hiking all the 4000 footers in Maine and Vermont to complete the New England 67 list. I did just that and revisited some of my favorite NH 4000-footers. Here is what my year looked like:
Winter:
I started off the year by working on my NH 4k winter list. I completed 15 winter hikes this past season. Some of the highlights include sledding down Liberty, Flume, the Osceolas, Washington, and Willey!

Sledding down Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail on Mt. Washington! |
Another highlight was summiting Moosilauke in frigid temps, low visibility, and high winds. It was like another world!
Spring:
One of the most exhausting and amazing hikes I did was a Franconia Ridge Traverse. Of course when you go with some of the craziest peak baggers you know, you’re bound to mix it up! We hiked up Skookumchuck Trail to Lincoln, hiked over to Lafayette, post holed a good chunk of the way to Liberty and then hiked down the Flume Slide, and bushwhacked in spring snow!
Summer:
My NE67 quest was in full force come summer. I drove up to the Rangeley area twice to hike the 10 4Ks there. I had amazing company for these hikes! We encountered rain, fog, and when we got lucky- endless views. We even managed to successfully bushwhack to Reddington and back.
Another weekend was spent in Vermont. The plan was to summit all 5 4Ks. We managed to get four but Abraham eluded us because of a carspotting error. I would later find it was worth it to save for later.
Autumn:
This was my third year participating in the
Flags on the 48 event. My team braved the elements on Lafayette and even hiked over to Lincoln to visit their flag.

Ok, being a little dramatic 🙂 |
The UK’s The Guardian featured ten people who took on some
crazy travel challenges. I was the only female featured!
I have been writing for the EMS blog for almost a year! In November I began series called “Trail Talk Thursdays” where I shed light on a person, organization or resource that has made a difference in the hiking community. Check out my posts
here and if you have a suggestion for someone to feature I’d love to hear from you!
Mount Katahdin has been one of my favorite hikes to date! If you’re curious to see the Knife Edge, check out my Mt Katahdin Video.
This year for my birthday Keith took me to Vermont for the weekend and hikes Mt Abraham (my last NE67 peak) with me. We also explored Montpelier, and he proposed to me at a vineyard the next day! It was definitely a very memorable hiking weekend!
Winter:
The winter season has just begun. This was not an official winter hike, but the Bonds during a full moon was amazing! We had some snow on the ground and it got me pretty psyched for this season!

With all the rain, this winter is going to start off slow, but I plan on hiking my last 22 winter peaks!
Coming up in 2014:
Next year is going to be another big year! I am working on hiking all the NH 4000-footers in each season so I will be above 4000 feet a lot this year. So far for my NH 4K Four Season list I have hiked 107/192 peaks!
I will also be hiking the John Muir Trail in July so stay posted on more updates!
What are your goals for next year? Let me know in the comments section!
