New Snacks and Food at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2015

This year’s Outdoor Retailer (OR) Winter Market had a variety of snacks and fuel for the trail. Here’s a look at what impressed me along with one odd ball snack.

The line of snacks that really impressed me is Navitas Naturals. They have a variety of snacks that are all organic, GMO-free, and are nutrient dense. Navitas Naturals is a family-owned green business headquartered in Marin County, California. I tried all of the snacks offered at their OR booth and really enjoyed them all. Healthy can definitely be delicious.

GU Energy has gone through a re-branding process so you will notice different packaging. The gels have their active ingredients clearly written on the front of the labels. The flavors have not changed, just the packaging.

The most exciting thing I learned is that energy bar wrappers can be recycled or upcycled. You can send the wrappers in for free! Thanks Clif Bar for sponsoring this program!

There is a new Dark Chocolate KIT’s Organic bar! This bar is chewy and has dark chocolate with a hint of chili pepper. It’s not spicy, but gives it a more complex flavor. It tastes great, especially being gluten, soy, and dairy free!

I was not impressed with Clif’s new line of savory energy food packs. The two savory flavors are pizza and sweet potato with sea salt. I will say the sweet potato one had a convincing taste, but I’d rather stick to sweeter smoothie packs.

New AlpineAire Mexican inspired freeze dried burrito bowls. They come in beef, chicken, and vegetarian options.

While not new, I had never seen these specialty coffee and teas. Grower’s Cup makes fair-trade, organic blends that would be easy to take on the trail. Definitely too large for thru hikers, but an option for a shorter trek.
